Missions Committee

Our Committee Mission is to spread God’s love and to be disciples of Christ through our missions to the poor, the lonely, the suffering, the homeless, the ill, and the depressed.

Local and Ongoing Committee Projects:

  1. Ending Hunger by the 100s is a monthly food drive collecting designated supplies to stock a local food pantry.
  2. SERVE is a monthly commitment to supply egg casserole for a homeless shelter for brunch.
  3. We support with monthly donations a missionary at two Virginia colleges.

Seasonal Projects:

  1. We hold a winter coat drive for Charlie’s Place, a D.C. shelter for the homeless, in December.
  2. We participate in Operation Christmas Child by filling shoeboxes with small toys, school supplies, and health and hygiene items for worldwide distribution (October to November).
  3. We collect mittens, gloves, scarves, and winter hats for distribution at a homeless center in December.
  4. We create Conference Kits (health and hygiene, school, flood buckets, or childbirth) for the annual conference.

Special Events:

  1. Speakers give Missionary Moments to talk about their experiences.
  2. Rise Against Hunger holds food-packing events in which the entire congregation participates.
  3. We support with financial donations and prayers our members’ mission trips abroad.
